Bryan,
You live about a half-hour from me (I'm in Palatine). I'm not sure how Lake
County is about ferrets, but neighboring Cook County appears to have little
interest in the rights of ferrets or their owners. They do NOT care if
they've been vaccinated for rabies or not. That last sentence is based
purely on my experience...different communities in the county might have
better luck. Palatine is not one of them.
If you still need safe haven for your ferrets, PLEASE contact me. I would
also suggest you give Save-A-Pet (in Grayslake) a call. They're only
cats/dogs, but they can probably give you a better idea of how rabies
complaints are dealt with in that area. Their number is (847)740-7788.
Mary Van Dahm at the FAIR Ferret Shelter (in Westchester) can probably give
you some advice as well...FAIR's number is (708)681-3181.
The safety of your ferrets is obviously important, but at the same time, you
don't want to split up your family unnecessarily. But I'll be happy to help
out in any way I can, either on a temporary or permanent basis. My daytime
work number is (312)817-3646...home is (847)202-4760.
