Re: Totally Ferret
 
To mail order Totally Ferret, you need to call 1-800-843-1738.  This is the
number for Ohio Pet and is listed on the bag as Performance Foods.  Sorta
confusing.  My last price on a 20# bag was $47.20.  Sure, that's a lot, but
it will probably last a year now that we're down to one ferret.  It's a
substantial savings over the 5# bag.
 
...not to mention the fact that each order includes a really cool ferret
toy:  a really BIG brown paper sack!  Sure, they *say* that it's just for
protecting the food bag during shipping, but you know how those people are.

My Fosgate never liked raisins and was only mildly aware of Ferretone's
existance.  Since we switched to Totally Ferret, we quit using it, though.
(BTW, does that stuff go bad?)
 
Re: Bats with rabies
 
This is a huge pet peeve of a biologist friend of mine* who works with bats.
 
Bats simply don't get rabies.  It's a myth spread by ignorance and fear.
(Hmmm....kinda like some other animal we all know.) A bat's life just does
not lend it to any encounters that could transmit rabies and if it did, the
bat simply wouldn't survive the attack.
 
Let's not do a disservice to another misunderstood animal by perpetuating a
myth.
 
* Derek is a biologist who is the local bat removal specialist, has a cool
bat detector which allows you to hear how bats communicate, software called
AnaBat that records data from the detector and displays it graphically, and
recently attended a conference of bat experts in North Dakota, so I tend to
believe what he says.  I'm not saying that no bat has ever had rabies, but
that emotions play a bigger part than reason.  You've got about the same
chance of getting rabies from a bat as you do from your mom.
