Well, I dunno if any of you folks out there have thought about this
yourselves, but I had the idea a few days ago, while reading through some
of these postings and some of the stuff in alt.pets.ferrets.
I'm pretty sure we'd ALL love to see more publicity about the domesticated
ferret out there...I know I sure would. Especially on TV! Right? Well,
let me share my little idea with ya'll and maybe together, we can get
something going.
First, let me tell you how the idea came to mind. After reading so many
desires for more publicity about ferrets, I started to think about how we
as ferret owners and enthusiasts might be able to achieve that end.
Immediately brought to mind, was a project that a Non-Profit educational
Orgainization I belong to did recently. We made our own film about the
Battle of Maldon. It is a historical group, and we took about a year or so
and through several various weekends filmed this. Then we took taht film
and went to The History Channel, and they apparently have agreed to not
only air the half hour show, BUT also to put in a short spot after the
film, advertising our group.
This sparked my idea. Well, if my group Markland can do something along
these lines, what would stop a large group of enthusiasts like us from
seeing a project like this off the ground. Well, certainly we are more
spread out. And we don't all contribute yearly dues...BUT to my knowledge
very little of the funding came out of the orginization funding anyways.
I'm SURE we have more than enough qualified folks here to write up a good
scripting for a documentary about these animals, and probably enough of us
out there that would be willing to be on film with our little ones. Now,
here's the real clincher of an idea, that might make this whole thing work,
and maybe, just MAYBE, make it incredibly cheap to do. Find a college
student in an art school that is studying film and would like to make a
documentary as a senior project. They would have great access to
equiptment, might even get film and developing paid for, and I'm sure they'd
love the idea of having a great deal of help...and support from us for the
project AFTER it was finished. Then, if we could get copies out to many of
the PBS stations throughout the country....well...it might work.
Of course, I know there is a video available about ferrets right now. But
I don't know if they are trying to get this aired on TV or just selling it
through magazines/word of mouth etc.
Well, there's my idea. I believe it is a good one, and I might even start
ferreting around my area for someone that might be interested. Let me know
what ya'll think.
