Just FYI, t/d is produced by Hill's as a prescription food for the
prevention of tartar build-up. I believe the reason it is prescription only
is to encourage proper dental hygiene for animals by their owners, by having
it recommended by a vet after a thorough oral exam. We usually send it home
with the dental patients, and recommend it for animals that are prone to
tartar build-up.
The food should be fine as an occassional treat for your ferret, but it is
definitely not a complete diet for ferrets, and should not be fed as such.
It does a great job on dogs' teeth, and the theory behind the way it works
should make it valuable for ferrets as well.
This is an interesting idea - I'll ask my Hill's rep next time he's around.
