In response to Matt Romoser's question about ferrets digging carpet, I have
three ferrets and the only time they dig at the carpet is when it is from
behind a closed door and they want in! We have a partial door to keep them
from going upstairs at night and they will dig at the carpet on the stairs
in front of the door because they *know* what is behind the door! When I
noticed the carpet getting a bit frayed, I put clear packing tape (or trusty
duct tape) in that area to protect the carpet.

I have never seen them dig the carpet other than what I described above ...
of course, my babies know I wouldn't like it if they dug at the carpet and
I'm *sure* they are just respecting my preference for un-frayed carpet :-)
