Dear Debbie,
I just got back from a long weekend and read all the sympathetic postings on
the FML.  My heart goes out to you and I understand your pain.  Please do
not punish yourself as a result of this tragic accident.  I had a similar
experience 15 years ago with one of my snakes and still have not forgiven
myself (although I'm sure Hercules has)!  I'm glad that you found a new vet
for the girls.
 
I hope that no one else suffers this type of experience.  Please remember
this good advice given to me by my daughters pediatrician (I apply the same
principle to my pets).  NO ONE knows your child/animal as well as you do!
If your care giver dismisses your concerns DEMAND that they do as you ask!
If they still do not take you seriously, seek help from some one else
immediately!  I have spent a few dollars needlessly but it was worth the
peace of mind that I recieved!!
