Please excuse my ignorance but there is something about the legality of
ferrets that I do not quite understand. I understand that ferrets are legal
in all states except California, Massachusetts, and Hawaii (and if we're
lucky, they will be legal in those states in the near future). What I don't
understand is if a ferret is legal in a state, say NY, then how can they not
be allowed in certain cities or counties of the state where they are
supposed to be legal???? Example: Ferrets are "legal" in NY but I've heard
that they are not welcome, and often confiscated, in NYC. What is that all
about? I thought if they were legal in the state, then they are legal
everywhere IN the state?
We are moving into NJ as soon as we sell our house in PA. I know that I
need to obtain a permit from Fish and Game in order to own them there but do
I now have to worry about WHERE in Jersey I move? Are they not legal or
welcome everywhere in NJ?
Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.
