Bill -  **In Life Blood,** a suspense novel by Caroline Llewelyn, includes a
ferret character named Spike.  Llewelyns' portrayal of  Spike is endearing.
 I especially enjoyed the part where Spike began "chittering and undulating
like a slinky" across the top of a curtain pole while the pianist played
Keystone Kops.  BTW, the book was published by Scribners in 1993.
