It may work for some but Flip is dedicated!  I tryed the above method and
he actually got more interested 8-).  Now there is hardware wire on top of
the soil and railroad rocks on top of that.  It's strange but since we did
this he hasn't even tryed to get to the soil.  It's not that he tryed and
failed, he just seems to know that that won't work without even trying.
