Re: Travelling to the west coast..  keep in mind that ferrets are illegal in
California, and there are border agricultural check points along the major
highways (at the Arizona / CA border along the 10, and about 100 miles from
the Nevada / CA border along the 15 - not sure about others) which could be
bad news for your ferret.  Unless you're into smuggling, it might be better
to leave your furry friend at home, or skip California (better yet - write
to california legislators and the governor telling them you spent your
tourist dollars elsewhere because your pet could not come along).
 
A 16 lb ferret?  Are you sure you don't have a badger or something??
