Nutritional yeast was one of the ingredients I used in making tonight's
dinner. I had never come across nutritional yeast before I became a
vegetarian; it does turn up in vegetarian recipes here and there. Anyway,
nutritional yeast is yellow flakey stuff that's used for breading things
before frying them. It's supposed to be full of vitamin B12. (I think
that's the vitamin. It's been a while since I took a nutrition course.)

I've heard that a bit of nutritional yeast is really good for cats, and its
reputed to help keep fleas away. Cats go absolutely mental for nutritional
yeast, so I decided to give Maddy and Theo a wee bit to see if they like it.
I put some in the palm of my hand (stupid, stupid move) and knelt down to
offer it to the fuzzits.

Holy moly! Theo, my gentle darling baby ferret, BIT me so hard that he drew
blood! He just *had* to have that stuff right away! He wasn't sure exactly
where that smell was coming from, but it was so tantalizing that he bit into
what seemed to be the source: me. Theo has never ever ever bitten that hard
or even close; he's very gentle these days. Yipes! Maddy was much politer,
but she obviously loves the stuff, too. Next time I give them a little bit
I will put some on a plate instead of on my vulnerable flesh.

Have anybody else's ferrets tried nutritional yeast? And are there other
ferret nutritional-yeast addicts out there?
