I would be careful about giving the advice not to tell property managers
about your furries.  I had my ferrets listed on my apartment application,
but apparently I signed a "no pet" lease without knowing it.  I am a college
student and just got slammed with a $600 deposit/fine because of this.
 
Appartment hunting is HELL with ferrets here in Austin, but trying to dig
out this kind of money on the spur of the moment is even more hellish. Laws
vary from state to state, but here in Texas property managers can turn your
animal over to the local animal control authorities with only 24 hours
notice.
 
If you love your furries, and can't afford such fines, spend the extra time
to find an apartment where you know your animal is protected.
 
Question:
What would a reasonable weight for a female three year old ferret? I have
one that seems pretty flabby and I'm concerned. The other one is very svelt
and agile and makes the flabby one look like a potato.
