Well it feels embarrassing to say, but since I'm told his recipe is going
into several newsletters & the next update of the FAQ, it did seem important
to make a couple of corrections to his recipe of 3/8/96.
Soon after posting the 3/8 update, Timmy was eating less and less until all
he would eat was Deliver 2.0 .. I finally figured out after dropping back
to the original recipe that the Vit.C and special care were making it too
acidic for their taste. The colloidal silver in the recipe also added a
bitter taste, and I give that separately now, as needed. (Thank you to
Kelleen for support during this trying time of fearing for "the worst"..)
Since the Chei Shei is out of production I am experimenting with non-alcohol
liquid extracts of some of the individual herbs from the formula:
Echinaccea, American Ginseng, black walnut hulls, and licorice. I can email
descriptions of action to you if requested. [for life threatening
conditions, there is some Chei Shei available from a friends' private stock
who's sympathetic to the cause. He's also trying to contact the inventor to
re-establish production. When you read the list of herbs it contains,
you'll see why it'd be lots easier to use that way!].
Again, my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused, but I felt
it important that the recipe work, not possibly cause another frustration
for someone wrestling with an already sick ferret. I feel that there was a
purpose for the 2000 hours of research I did when my brother was struggling
with leukemia, and the fact that Timmy is totally recovered from what was
lab confirmed as "terminal lymphoma", back in Oct. 1994. I am humbly
grateful to have been a part of his healing.
Respectfully, Gary & the gang of fur.
Timmy's recipe, updated 3/17/96
The following recipe is for 8 ferrets, and can be refrigerated or use
smaller amounts as needed.
3 jars (4oz.ea.) Earth's Best organic Turkey Vegetable baby food
(800-442-4221). [Gerber's OK in a pinch]
2 tsp. clover honey, or to taste (their approval taste, so they eat
it). Optional if they eat it without.
1 tsp. Ferratone or organic flax seed oil
1/8 tsp. powdered garlic (NOT garlic salt!)
1-2 Tbl. pure water, as needed if syringe feeding, so it passes through
the end. I use a 35cc "feeder syringe", also known as a catheter
tip, that has a larger opening. I get mine from Colorado Animal
Health, 800-235-2636, in Longmont, Co.
3 cc Pet Tinic liquid vitamins (Colorado Animal Health or Omaha
Vaccine ~4oz for less than $5.00
1 1/2 tsp. "The missing link" feline supplement by Petscriptions, inc.
800-774-PETS: 22% prot., 20% fat: Contains: Flax, molasses, yeast,
rice bran, liver, alfalfa, bone ash, carrot, fish meal, oyster, kelp,
lecithin, taurine, ascorbic acid, garlic. [not part of the origional
recipe, but currently seems to be improving the quality of their
coats:)]
Feed as much as they will eat, every 2 hours or so if sick & not eating on
their own. I consult a vet with herbal experience, as well as certified
DVM. Prayer has been proven to help by studies at Harvard by Dr. Dossey,
as if most of us needed "proof". I will help locate or send any suppliments
you might not be able to get locally. I've been doing that for almost a
year now, and consider it just part of my ministry. "We're all in this
together".
Additions:
A) If ferret is skinny, and / or not eating well, Deliver 2.0 high calorie
supplement (Mead Johnson mfg.) from any pharmacy would be added to approx.
30% of recipe by volume, or feed directly as a desert. [My Silky increased
her weight about 1/3rd in 3 weeks when I gave her a cup of recipe
separately, without the Deliver.. She and Timmy will not compete with the
others for food.]
B) If ill, would add 5-10cc per ferret per jar of baby food of Chei Shei
herbal supplement, and offer a mix with 1/2 C. water for them to drink..
(I can provide purchase info., though it's scarce presently.) Ingredients:
Clover honey; The following extracts in purified water, Echinacea
angustifolia, Siberian Ginseng, Chinese red ginseng, black walnut hulls,
Licorice root, chicory root, hibiscus flowers, dandelion root, wood betony,
scullcap, burdock root, Chinese cinnamon, alfalfa herb, elder flowers, red
clover blossoms, Echinacea purpurea, sarsaparilla root, astragalus root,
rose petals & buds, Ho-Shou-Wu root (Polygonum multiflorium), rose hips,
eyebright, orange peel, damiana, fennel seed, cloves, potassium
glycerophosphate, glycero borate, apple concentrate, monopotassium citrate,
vegetable glycerine, ascorbic acid (preservative), monopotassium aspartate,
lemon juice, natural black cherry flavor, lemon essential oil, grapefruit
seed extract.
Other herbal supplements such as Matol's Km or PWS 2000, or individual herbs
could be used as your knowledge could indicate.
C) If ill, I would also use colloidal silver as natural anti biotic & immune
system booster. Depending on condition, have used .2cc up to 2cc/ferret
/day in single or divided dose. (mine lick it right off the dropper). I
mix it with maybe 5% clover honey if they don't like it straight. Available
from Silver Wings, 800-952-4787
D) If ill, I would add 1/2 capsule 2x/ day /ferret of Immuplex 4960 by
Standard Process Co. that Dr. Dave McCluggage of Boulder prescribed for
Timmy. This might not be absolutely critical as Timmy was 85% healed by the
time he got to Boulder, but he also said that the last 15% of the lymphoma
was most important to get rid of, as if he slipped backwards, it would be
much harder to beat the second time. I also found it available at a good
health food store here in Scottsdale.
Dr. Dave also Rx'd 1/10 th. of a 30mg CoQ10 cap twice a day for Timmy=
This is offered as research information, not a guarantee or "medical
advice"; Consult your favorite health practitioner as appropriate, etc.
[Timmy is still eating the Kit Nips ONLY as his dry food choice, though
Turkey Pro Plan, Precise Feline, Totally Ferret & Natures' Recipe Feline
Mtce. are available.]
Their energy levels are up overall, and Timmy (who in Oct. of 1994 was
diagnosed with terminal lymphoma, & 2-3 weeks to live, for the newcomers),
is currently well and stable.. :)
