A clipped vein is common during nail clipping.  A little syptic powder (drug
store) will stem the flow quickly.  Next time though, when you are ready to
clip, put a couple drops of ferretone on the ferret's belly as you hold him
on you lap, back on you legs.  Show him the ferretone and while he's
licking, start clipping.
 
If you haven't introduced him to ferretone, you might want to do that
first.  Most will love it once they've tasted it, but you might have to put
some on your finger and rub it in his mouth first.  After that it makes a
great training aid and, as I said, wonderful during nail clipping time.
