Hi- I am very worried about Rocket (our 1.5 yr old male). Yesterday morning
he had (and this is very gross, sorry) explosive diahrea (all over the wall
behind his cage, on his blankets, his food bowl, etc.) He is acting
normally, eating, playing, dooking, etc. He then had a normal poop that
afternoon and another diahrea episode that evening, still no behavior
changes. I have not changed his food, nor have I found anything that he has
gotten into that he shouldnt have. This morning he has had 2 normal
(somewhat small) poops. I spoke with someone at the emergency clinic ( a
ferret vet) last night and they said that if he is still showing signs today
that I should bring him in to make sure he doesnt get dehydrated and to find
out the problem. I have stopped giving him raisins since this started
(although he has never had a problem with his one raisin a day regime) and
am trying to make sure he gets plent of water. The only thing that has
happened immediately prior to this problem is that we had friends over for
new years eve(the night before the first episode) who smoked (I tried to
keep him out of the way as much as possible but they seemed to be in every
room) He has never been around smoke before (and I cant guarentee WHAT they
were smoking...) Could this somehow have made him sick?? I dont think he
was exposed to very much smoke but I dont know what else could have
triggered this. He has never had tummy problems before and I am worried!
There was no blood/green slime/etc in the poop, just grainy looking (and an
undigested raisin...ICK!) What should I do/look for/etc???
Diane
