I, too, have experienced the problem you are describing with one of my
ferrets (C-pi, RIP) getting up inside the box springs and digging away at
the batting, stashing toys up inside there, and sleeping.  It was very
cute to see, but very destructive!
 
My solution was to take a fitted sheet and fit it over the box spring
from underneath. I then bought some of those tacks you can buy at fabric
stores for holding down upholstery and attached the sheets in place so
she couldn't pull the edges down and get in from the side. Voila, problem
solved! Of course, she missed her little hiding place ...
