Hi!

This problem is for a friend, to whom I'll pass on any info ASAP.
Here's the situation:

He was planning to move to Tempe, Arizona for several months, and working
out the logistics of doing such. One of these was the moving of his two
ferrets (Riesling and Merlot) from his current home (upstate NY) to
Arizona. After calling several different transportation services, he
seemed to find that only Continental Airlines would accept his ferrets
for an extra charge.

He booked a flight with Continental for August 8th, and paid the "ferret
fee." Then, some days later, someone told him that the ferrets would not
be allowed on under certain conditions, including weather. He called
Continental to ask about these conditions, and what the chances were that
the ferrets would be disallowed in August. THey told him (at this point,
rather than when he purchased the ticket, conveniently enough) that the
ferrets will never be allowed on in August.

You can probably surmise the problem now! What is he supposed to do?
What transportation options are there? Are there any that will take just
the ferrets, so he doesn't have to lose his already purchased airfare?
He/we honestly cannot think what else he can do other than

a) sneak them onto the plane, which is not a great option
b) find some other form of transportation that will take them
(Amtrak would not). Bus would not, and too long a trip anyway.

He can't rent a car and make a roadtrip of it because he doesn't drive.
Which seems to only leave the worst option:

c) sell them, which he certainly does not _want_ to do

So if anyone on this list has any experience in similar matters and can
offer any (quick) advice, he would be extremely appreciative. Again, the
hurdle at hand is that the ferrets need to get from upstate NY to Tempe
(or Phoenix), Arizona. Doesn't have to be on the 8th, as such, but close
to that time.

Thanks to all

-Aaron
