Hello Everyone. I have had Pixie in my bedroom for 3 months now; the room
is ferret-proofed (or so I thought), and in my room I have a large birdcage
with two parakeets in it. This cage was kept about 3 1/2 feet off of the
ground, and Pixie, my 6 month old male, never showed interest nor ability to
reach the cage.
Today I arrived home from school to find the bird cage overturned and
feathers everywhere. Don, one of my birds, was fine, but I found poor Juan
under my bed, having been chewed to death. I know it's my fault for not
keeping my birdies out of danger's way, nevertheless I'm upset. I
understand that Pixie cannot help his instinct. What I'm worried about is,
can Pixie be sick now? He appears to be okay, but still... And if I had
another ferret to be a companion to Pix, would Pixie have been less "bored"
and occupy himself with his friend instead of trouble? That seems like a
silly thing to ask, but I'm not positive how 2 ferrets interact alone. I
feel bad enough leaving Pix all alone during the day to amuse himself.
Thanks for your help!
Bethie and Pixie
