Potpie went in for bloodwork a few days ago, both because she's 3 yrs now,
and because I noticed her winter coat wasn't coming in correctly. Dr.
Daldin said that the results indicated she was slightly anemic - levels of
hemocrits (?) down to 34 from normal levels of 40-50. Her calcium count was
also low. Her coat went from a normal summer coat to a short, dark, coarse,
stiff, and sparse coat that the vet didn't like. There are no signs of her
winter coat starting to come in, either, although she is currently a very
itchy ferret. She was also dehydrated the day before i took her in. Any
ideas? Behavior's normal, she's eating Iam's Kitten fairly well (and Dr.
Daldin suggested i leave her on it for now), and she gets a raisin or two a
day - nothing in her diet is different. The bloodwork showed her liver and
kidneys looked good.
The vet suggested 'Petinic' - an iron supplement - and crushing a calcium
tablet and sprinkling a pinch on her food for a calcium supplement. Does
the anemia and low calcium suggest anything right now?
