Hi all,
Well, unfortunately the ferret was still loose in the building. We
actually had her in a squirrel trap this morning, but she didn't trip the
trap door. She bolted down through the hole around the pipes, fell onto
the vent system, got inside it through a hole, and made her way to the
outside world. She was spotted twice outside, but I couldn't catch up to
her. I'm afraid she may have run out of luck.
The thing that perturbs me the most is that one of the department
secretaries made a comment that someone may have let her loose in the
building so that "someone will find her and give her a good home. It's
better than letting her go outside." Well guess what, that's where she ended
up. I have a horrible suspicion that this may indeed have been a deliberate
release, not a matter of someone bringing her in and having her wander off.
Since Saturday, no one has called us [security] to report a lost ferret.
Any responsible owner would have reported the animal lost. I hope I'm
wrong.
I am still on duty for several more hours, and will continue watching
for her.
