  What are references that ferrets have been domesticated longer than cats?
 
  Also, I am building a cage for a ferret.  Don't have one yet, but I have
come up with a question.
 
  The wood I am using is some old wood my parents had laying around.  It is
about 2 inches X 2 inches.  Should I put the wire mesh on the inside of the
frame or outside?
 
  I figure that if I put it on the inside, it will greatly reduce the cage
space.
 
  However, if I put it on the outside...  The ferret might be able to gnaw
on the wood.  Any ideas?  Should I be worried about the ferret having
access to the wood?
