David Ljung, other vets and FMLers will give you advise on your question
regarding bilateral adrenalectomy.  Our 3-year-old sable female, Sneaker,
had an adrenalectomy last December.  By the time we adopted her from her
ex-owner, she barely had hair on her head and a very swollen vulva.  Our
vet found that both adrenal glands had tumors and removed the left one.
We didn't see any hair growth or reduction in the swollen vulva, although
she remained very active and had a hearty appetite.  When we posted
questions regarding a possible bilateral adrenalectomy or medical
treatment in March, we received several valuable responses.
 
Starting this March, we have been giving her Ovaban (1/8 of 20 mg tablet
daily first 5 days, after 5th days reduced the frequency to every 3 days;
currently 1/16 of tablet every 3 days).  To our surprise, her hair grew
back slowly but steadily.  She still has a bald area around her bottom
and tail, however, some hair is growing on her tail.  Her vulva also has
become smaller -- from the size of a nickel to a small pea.  Because she
is still very active and eats a lot (a plump ferret :-) ) the vet and we
decided to wait and see.  We will go ahead with a bilateral adrenalectomy
followed by Prelone treatment if there should be signs of lethargy.
