Perhaps, but sables have been with us for many generations.  Literature
from the 1870's is clear on the point that there were both albinos or
yellowish ferrets as well as those coloured almost exactly as polecats.
Did the ancient Greeks and Romans mention ferret colours in comparision
with polecats?
