Regarding the HSUS statement that ferrets aren't for everyone, I have to
admit that's true, but I feel the HSUS unfairly singles out ferrets.  The
HSUS actively promotes the adoption of dogs and cats from animal shelters;
bringing home an adult dog with an unknown past is not for everyone, either.
Bill and I adopted a dog from an animal shelter 4 years ago, and we recently
rescued a ferret.  At least in our experience, retraining and resocializing
a dog has been a much greater challenge.  There seems to be a lack of
balance in the Humane Society's opinions of ferrets compared to other
companion animals.
