I would like to thank everyone for the support and condolances that I
received after the passing of Frettchen on Saturday. I was feeling pretty
guilty as I have been very careful to keep rubber out of her reach since the
death of Coco. I have also bundled all the helpful suggestions concerning
how to handle such emergencies, and will be forwarding them to my
veterinarian. I don't blame her, as we live in the deep south of Illinois,
and exotic pets just aren't a priority here (unless it is a ferret-injured
cow;) I know that she feels badly for what occurred.
Special thanks to Dr. Williams for pointing out to me what I think I
already knew. Since the death of Coco in Oct., Frettchen's tendency to chew
things had increased 400%. It didn't really occur to me that she had lost
what stimulated her the most - a companion. In the future, I will not have
less than 2 ferrets, as I didn't have these problems with 2 of them. Coco's
experience was the first time in 3 years, and in a home that was not as
ferret-proofed as this one.
In my first post, I stated that I was probably not going to get
another ferret. Well, I try to live life one day at a time, and accept what
happens as what is supposed to be. I decided on Sunday that if I was meant
to have a ferret, one would be dropped in my lap. Yesterday, I received a
call from my family in KY, wanting to know if I knew anyone who wanted two
ferrets! To make a long story short, on Saturday, I will be picking up my 2
new kids. I don't know much about them except that they are both females,
and are about 18 mos old. They are also up-to-date on shots. So, I guess I
will be getting back on the horse that threw me much sooner than I expected.
Prior to that, I will be going through my house with a fine-toothed comb,
and on my hands and knees, and if it is rubber, it lill either be thrown
away, or locked up! This will not happen again!! Thanks again for
everything, and you will probably be hearing from me in the future.
