I purchased a lovely spruce to decorate for the holidays, quite sure that
Magill and Guinness would have a blast climbing it. Upon bringing in the
tree, Magill's tail bottle-brushed and Guinness ran for his life. Thinking
that Guinness was being silly and just needed some reassurance from his
Mama, I put him in a sling around my neck and went about my business. As
I walked past the tree, he peed on me! He was absolutely terrified. When
I returned home from work the next day, I realized why. The house smelled
of pine and a musky stench similar to ferret spray. You know, that kind of
musk and burning electrical wire odor that armed ferrets can produce at
will. Some industrious beast thoroughly marked my tree.
I didn't know what to do. I had visions of dragging the tree into the yard
and dousing it with tomato juice. I imagined the peals of laughter I'd
receive upon trying to return it because it stank. I had to do something,
poor Guinness was a wreck. Fortunately a friend saved the day. She pointed
out that the Eliminodor spray I use on the fuzzies will probably neutralize
the musky secretions from other animals as well. It took about one half of
the bottle to de-stink the tree, but now Guinness is happily running around
under it, shredding all wrapping paper he can get his darling little paws
on. (My SOs response to the paper shredding: "The only way to defeat him
is to de-feet him!")
Happy Holidays to all!
