ACTUALLY - they used two MALES (really more like 12 males).  In California,
where ferrets are illegal, in order to get a permit to use ferrets in a
movie, or a zoo, etc., they must be neutered males.  (I'm sure the CA people
could verify that, I read it a long time ago...)   Several ferrets are
actually used in movies.  for example, in Kindergarten Cop, you can definetly
tell there are more than one ferret as "stunt doubles".  Look closely at the
faces.  Snoopy was the main ferret, but I believe Louis Arnu in Lahoma, OK
(?) who owns the ferrets used for the movie, said they used at least 8.
 
In most movies they use Raccoon noises (I think the ferret chuckle is much
better, just not as loud).  If you watch really old reruns of really dumb
sitcoms, there was an episode of Golden Girls where they bought some "mink"
to breed (they were all ferrets).
