My vet asked me to post to the list for information on sarcomas in ferrets.
Her experience with ferrets has been somewhat limited and she and I would
appreciate some advice from the Drs. or anyone who has had experience with
sarcomas and ferrets.

My 3 1/2 year old hob, Axel, has a small lump (the size of a small pea) on
the left side of his neck near his shoulder. It seems to have come on
suddenly. I noticed it a few weeks ago. There doesn't seem to be any change
in the size of it. My vet thought at first that it might be a cyst and she
tried to get some fluid from it but apparently it is very solid. In fact she
could not get the needle in at all. She couldn't get any cells from it to
examine. She said some animals get calcium deposits but she thought he was
too young for that, so she thought it was probably a sarcoma or
fibrosarcoma. She would like to know the occurance of these in ferrets. Does
this seem like a likely diagnosis? I am on vacation from May 13 to May 21
and if surgery is warranted it will be done at this time. We would
appreciate any thoughts or advice. Thanks for any help you can offer.
