It's interesting that there have been a couple of recent posts about jaws
and teeth problems. There have been some posts on breeding ethics as well.
In Judi Bell's new book, she talks about congenital defects, specifically
brachcephaly. She describes ferrets with short noses like bulldogs -
brachycephaly (whoops, spelled it wrong the 1st time). If there isn't
enough room in the short jaw for the ferret's teeth, the teeth come in very
crooked. Although some people like this look (me included), it is not a
desired trait because of associated dental problems. Continued breeding of
ferrets with blunt noses will produce the bulldog look in future
generations - as well as the dental problems associated with the look.
Hmmmmmm..........something for those of us who breed to think about.....
