I, too, was under the impression that bacon grease is ok for ferrets. While
it is 100 percent animal fat, since ferrets are carnivores, I wouldn't
have expected it to be a problem; I don't know if dogs being omnivores
has any bearing on the problems Erika had with her dog).  Dr. Susan Brown
was the vet who recommended using bacon grease to me.
 
My ferrets don't like it so I've never pushed it.  However, since using
Totally Ferret, I've pretty much eliminated other additives and treats
with the exception of chicken baby food a few times a week and a raisin now
and then.
 
However, the nitrates and additives were not something I would have considered
but now I wonder whether these might be harmful.  Dr. Williams?
