It is important to replace fluids and food during this period. I have found
Duck Soup works very well. The recipe is: One 8 fluid oz. Sustacal (NO
substitute, other supplements have milk products), 8 fluid oz. water, 3/4
cup Iams cat food finely ground. Blend together. Ferrets need 60 mls, of
fluid per day. 12 mls. (2 tablespoons) three times a day will see your
ferret perk right up.
If you can, one cc. of Pepto Bismal (NO substitute) three times a day for
males, and 0.5 mls. for small females. Do this for a week and reduce to
two times a day for another week.
It sounds as if your guy has the dreaded Green Slime (stomach flu for
humans). It is highly contagious to other ferrets, but not humans or other
pets. Fluids and nutrition are essential during this time. Mortality is
low with proper care, but morbidity (other ferrets get it) is 100%=20
We are at the tail end of combating it with our seven carpet sharks. We got
a new little girl and she was the carrier.
