I'm posting this question in hopes that one of our DVM's will respond.
Two weeks ago my four ferrets were brought to our DVM for their yearly shots
and physicalls. Two of the four had Bronchial infections, with one having a
small lump in his throat. The DVM thought that this lump may be nothing
more than an inflamation caused by the infection, but wanted to see what
would happen. All four were put on Amoxycillian for ten days. The ferret
with the lump seemed to be cured by the antibiotic. His hacking stopped and
the lump in his throat (left side, towards wall of neck about where tonsils
should be) reduced in size. The problem is that a small lump is still
there. I spoke to our DVM today and he has scheduled surgery for next
Thursday to remove the lump and have a biopsy performed on it.
I hate to second guess my DVM, but is this really necessary. And if it is,
should it be done so quickly without waiting a little longer to see if the
lump goes down even more? With the biopsy I am looking at a $150.00+ bill.
I don't want to sound cheap, because if it were necessary I would take a
second mortgage to pay for their medical attention, but I don't want them
subjected to any unnecessary surgery.
Regards... Russ Hazzon
