Gail - ferrets are best in threes.  One will always be around when another is
unavailable.
 
I suggest getting ferrets that are within a two year age range of each toher.
this helps match activity levels better.  If you have one older ferret and
one younger kit, get A third ferret that is between their ages.  The sex is
not important, but the age will give the older a quieter friend than the
younster and the younster someone more active than the oldster.
