Avatar: I live in southern CALIFORNIA ( the land of outlaw Ferrets).

There are probably 10,000 critter living in CA.
As far as vets go, just call and ask all the local ones
if they take care of them. They won't turn you in because
they care more for animals then they do for the fish and game!

There is a bill in the senate right now to make them legal.
It is SB 55 and is in it's second reading. If anyone is interested
I will post more about it or send you mail direct. Just let me
know.

All: About stoping your kids from turning over their litter box in
the cage. I found a thing called "chinese jump rope" at
a toy store (cost about $1.00) it resembles a small bunge cord.
I drilled two holes (one on each side) of the cage about 3/4 inch
up from bottom. Ran the cord through and tied a knot on each side.
I pull it out a little and place the pan in. This holds the pan
to the end and Tourie can't turn it over but it is easy to remove
        for cleaning.

A method I use for keeping Tourie in any room is as follows:

I got some moulding from the hardware store the same that
is on my doors. I cut two pieces about 2 and 1/2 feet high and
nailed them on the door. One on each side from the bottom up.
About 1 inch from the existing moulding. I then got a piece
of pressed wood about the same height and the width of the
door and 1/4 thick. When I want her in the room I just slide the
wood in place. I did this to all my doors and now with two pieces
of wood I control just what rooms she can be in. (they are to
        heavy for her to lift.

Scotty (better known as dad)
Tourie (forgot to clip my nail? just watch this leg climb)

        P.S. isn't Ferret-proof an oxymoran?
