Several of you have posted lately that you have ECE in your homes - at
least you think you do... - and are looking for confirmation. I've
noticed that there is one particular symptom that you all have in common
that confuses me.
Everyone mentions vomiting. I was an original "participant" (if you
will) of the Greenies, now formally called ECE. I had 20 sick ferrets -
four of them next to me on the couch with round the clock feedings, etc. -
green, flourescent diarrhea, in spurts, VERY smelly stuff, fighting
dehydration and lack of appetite - the whole nine yards. Pat Nothnagle
had, I believe, about 30 or so ferrets. Debbie, you had a dozen or more,
right? Well, what confuses me is this... At that time our ferrets, and
those of all the people we talked to in Virginia and Maryland, NEVER had
vomiting. I know for sure about Pat and I (totaling 50 or more ferrets) -
Debbie, did you have any vomiting with that? I don't recall you saying you
did.
Has "The Greenies" changed? Are ferrets now just getting "the flu?"
- Dr. Williams... can you shed any light on this?
Jeanne
