While in an airport recently I did not fly Delta (but instead the ferret
unfriendly American Airlines), but I stopped by the Delta desk and obtained
the following information. The person at the desk did not know whether
*two* small pets in one reasonably sized kennel would be acceptable, which
is an issue for me. I think someone said that smell could be an issue, so
I think a bath before taking the pet planeward might be in order to appease
our non-ferret owning friends with sensitive noses.
From the Delta Airlines computers (case originally all upper,
verbatim):

Delta permits small..warm-blooded..domesticated pets
dog/cat/rabbit/bird/ferret/hamster/guinea pigin aircraft cabin
provided that the household pet is at least 8 weeks old.
note: snakes..pot-bellied pigs..iguanas are not accepted
- is housed in a suitable carry on kennel that will fit underneath the
seat exception: intl aircraft in first class..kennel will not fit
under seat. flt attendant will assist psgr in locating space for pet
during take-off and landing
note: extra seat may *not* be purchased for pet in cabin. must remain
in kennel under seat at all times.
- remains inside its kennel with the entrance gate secured while in
the boarding area..in a delta airport lounge facility..during boarding
and deplaning..and at all times while onboard aircraft
