What you are describing when your ferret paws at his mouth, in my
experience, means that your ferret is probably nauseated. This sometimes
go hand in hand with the teeth grinding.
What it means is that you need to see a vet ASAP. It could mean a number of
things: obstruction, ulcers, tumors - any number of things, but what it
*definitely* means is that your ferret does not feel well at all and needs
some professional help.
