House Bill 295, currently wending its way through the legislature, proposes
the following:
1) Legalize ownership of neutered and vaccinated ferrets,
2) Allow breeders to breed and sell after paying a license fee of at least
$1,000,
3) Research facilities to breed with no fee, but no sales,
4) Educational facilities to get special license for neutered ferrets,
5) NO PET STORE SALES.
I urge all Mass subscribers to call and write your respective state reps.
and senators (617 722-2000 for info) to support this bill. If they have
local office open houses, drop by and make yourself and your position known.
Try to personalize the issue. A petition is another possibility, maybe a
local pet store will help here (registered voters sigs. only). Please post
any particularly strong opinions (pro or con) and who holds them and any
contacts with people on the consideration commitees. Anyone with advice
from other states who have overcome this tyranny, please help.
The last attempt died in committee, partly due to a late start. However,
the MSPCA and the Fisheries and Wildlife Commission may try to place some
speed bumps. The fight is joined, don't be left out. Ka Kluu, Ka Kluu
