Based on my experience deep in the Mass. FFZ, I have an opinion on the CA
text changes. The "import" changes in the proposed law may mean that they
intend to allow people to own ferrets, but pet stores will NOT be allowed to
sell them (also consistent with the restrictions on breeding). Hence, you
will have to import them from the barbarian hinterlands with less cultured
ways.

In our fair state, there are those that believe that pet store sales will
lead to impulse buying of a difficult-to-care-for animal and untold evils to
follow. May be the same thing here. The bright side is that once the door
is cracked, the possibilities increase.

I've seen some recent postings on the butt dragging that takes place after
litter pan visits. In my experience, it is a universal phenomenon. There
is some variation, based on need, in how much takes place. So, there are
times when a token or no drag happens. (Although, the little imps may be
aware of the surveillance and save it for another spot just to show who
laughs last. Come to think of it, mine really run when they skip it.) The
residue left behind indicates the need for and effectiveness of this action.
For those of you who would like to stop this (especially those who like to
cuddle), think about the alternative. Myself, I'm impressed at the level of
hygiene that this shows.

As a way to minimize the possible effects on flooring, a buffer zone of
about 1 foot of newspaper (disposable) or carpet scraps (washable) meets
their needs and keeps things cleaner. Both are inexpensive and easy to get.
They are also more effective than trying to change the ferret (easier to
get water to flow up).
