Well although I've been modeming for some time this is my first post like
this to a mailing list so be patient with me. I'm a Veterinarian from
Grand Rapids Mich. Although we've had little oportunity to work on
Ferrets up til recently I'm getting into it with both feet. I do
consulting work for a chain of petstores who have begun to market
ferrets. They have hundreds of people on waiting lists to purchase any
"fuzzies" they get in. I've been learning all I can about ferret
husbandry and medical care and have developed a real interest in the
critters. I attended our local Vet society meeting last night hoping to
glean some tips from other practitioners and wound up being the expert
speaker at the Ferret Roundtable. I have two 9week old ferrets
hospitalized at my home right now. "Big Bob" had a prolapsing rectum that
cleared up with some minor surgery and topical medication. "Little Bob"
was a poor doer that was discovered almost dead almost too late. He's now
gaining weight on kitten food, chicken baby food, a/d diet, and kitten
milkreplacer. I've also began a venture into the breeding of Ferrets.
I've teamed up with the son of my office receptionest to raise a few
babies. WE just recieved our trio of breeding animals tonight and they
are beautiful. Two sleek female silvers and a husky male badger sable. I
am also begining to explore the idea of setting up a shelter/rescue group
in the area. Our local animal shelter currently has a euthanize on site
policy for abandoned ferrets. I hope to become an active participant in
the FML. I defer answers to medical questions to the eloquent Dr Weiss
and Dr Williams who's postings I treasure reading.
