One of our two ferrets has recently developed an apparent aversion to
using litterboxes.  Especially the litterbox we keep in our bathroom.
Every day she makes several deposits right next to the box, right up
against it, but she won't climb in.  The condition of the box (clean,
dirty) does not seem to be a factor.  About 25% of the time the same
thing happens in the bedroom box.  At least in the cage she always goes
to the right place.  She has done this occasionally for a long time; it
is only recently that it has become constant.
 
ANy advice on what might cause this, or how to deal with it?  My only
guess about the cause is that her obesity (we have two, one thin as a
rail, and then this porker :) ) disinclines her to climb into the box.
My only idea to stop it was to put a food dish by the bedroom litterbox;
I think that helped deal with the problem in there, but I don't want to
do the same in the bathroom because the food will probably get wet and
moldy.  Any ideas?
