Hello, everyone.
I'm afraid that my third posting and question is, unfortunately, on a very
somber note.
My friend Meg's ferret, Xoie, passed away at the age of only 10 months on
Friday because she was asleep under a shirt that Meg had left on her
bedroom floor. She tripped while reaching for some car keys and stepped
right on Xoie. The vet thought that she'd be okay because he couldn't find
any internal bleeding, just bruising, he said. When Meg got home from work
on Friday evening, the poor girl had passed away in her sleep.
I just got back from her house a while ago where'd I'd been all weekend.
She's trying to put on a brave front, but she's feeling horribly guilty. She
keeps going into the bathroom to cry so we won't see her. She said that she
feels like she murdered her best friend. One of the worst things about it is
that she took such great pains to take care of Xoie. She was always checking
and rechecking to make sure that everything was ferret-proofed and safe. So,
it was pure accident and not carelessness on her part.
Can anyone tell me ANYTHING at all that I can say to her that would make her
feel better? I honestly don't know how we're going to get her over this
guilt. Thanks in advance . . .
Katy and Chloe
