BFF Infogram, 6/5/95
From Gary Holowicki, [log in to unmask]
My comments, information, and interpretations.
Well, I talked with Larry Shanks, District 6, Deputy asn't in charge
of BFF's, 303-236-7398, and he said 9 BFF's from Wyoming, 5 from Pueblo,
all class of 90-91, which would be 4 & 5 yr. olds, will be fitted with a
radio collar, backpacked to the release site & let go about sunset today.
When I told Carolyn about the Pueblo guys she about sat down & cried. ..
I could just imagine working with a fuzzy 4-5 years & then have to think
of them being dumped in the Badlands. I picked up my fuzzies & was
thankful they were all with me.
I've said about all I know to everyone I know & many people I've
met on preventing this from happening. I'm just saying lots of quiet
prayers tonight.
A possible good sign, is that Larry said he is the man who issues the
BFF permits, and can withdraw them if someone is not doing right by it.
He used to be more of a head honcho, & when in the position to be able to,
twice sigged' the justice dept. on Wyoming's site, and was demoted for
his efforts. Typical gvt...
But he said a formal request for proposal was not needed for the Living
Care center to be reconsidered. He mentioned 5 items that are pretty
straightforward. He prefaced it with stressing this would not be a "adopt
out a ferret program", that if they got 20 and 6 passed on a year later or
whenever, there had better be 14 left. This is no problem.
1. He also said there needed to be a "secure structure", i.e. key or
number code door that provided access to the ferret area to prevent them
from being "walked away with"; no problem.
2. There should be proper vet care; No problem.
3. There should be a "holding area", like for quarantine; No problem
4. Proper food & diet; Carolyn said the Totally Ferret people are
willing to donate all the food necessary. No problem.
5. It should have financial stability so 6 weeks or 6 months later it
can still be running. Carolyn said they were wanting to think of a 6 year
plan.
Larry said they also were trying to determine the policy for when a
ferret is "sick enough" that they would euthanize it. I told him Timmy's
story, & he said "well, lets' think about the permit first, then that's a
later thing...
Another post will update Timmy's recipe; Reduce the Liverall to 1/8th
tsp, add Vit. E, 25mg./ferret/day, add Vit.C, 50 mg/ferret/day.. Will be
the maintinence program also.
Respectfully, with a request for those of you with prayer as part of
your lives, to remember the little ones out in the forest tonight.
Gary
