As you may recall, Mandy had surgery a few weeks ago to remove an islet
cell tumor from the pancreas, and we had been slowly weaning her off the
pred since then. Blood glucose levels had been abnormally high (232 and
then 282) so my vet told me to stop all pred about a week ago.
We had her BG rechecked this AM after a 5-hour fast, and it was 126! :)
I am thrilled w/the results and w/out your encouragement, I'm not sure
I would have had the courage to put her under the knife.
My vet suggested we retest her BG in a couple of months to be sure she is
still stable. My Question: should I have an insulin/glucose ratio done
to be sure everything is ok, or am I ok w/a normal BG?
She is acting soooooo much better since she's been off the pred - she just
doesn't seem to tolerate it very well. She actually RUNS around the house
now - something she hasn't done in many many months. Her eyes look
significantly brighter and perkier - I can't thank you enough!
Of course, my vet's excellent surgical skills had SOMETHING to do with it too!
Thanks, Bruce, once again for all your help and advice.
