Nietzsche is an 11-week old sable male. I've had him for 3 weeks.
Lately, (3 days ago) he has developed what I fear will be a nasty and
very irritating habit: he tries to "dig" out of his cage. He makes a
very loud noise as he does so, a sort of "bong bong" every time he
scrapes his little feet across the bars of the cage. He also tends to
upset his water bottle, and once has gotten his collar cought in its holder,
requiring my attention to free him. The main problem is this: I DON'T
want him to learn that doing this is going to get me to come in there, or
get me to let him out, but I live in an apartment, and when he starts
this at 2am, my roommates (and myself!) are NOT happy about it. But
every time I hear his racket, I think of how it sounds exactly like the
time he was caught. How can I break Nietzsche of this? I'm afraid that
if I come in the bathroom (where I keep his cage) to discipline him (and
I don't know how to go about that, either!) then he'll learn that that's
how to get my attention. HELP!!! If anyone has had a similar problem
and can offer me some advice, I'd be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL! Thanks!
Eric Burgess
