Hi, all! I just got through reading the FERRET Digest for March 20th. I
recently had a run in with American Airlines concerning my ferrets. When
I left Albuquerque to go home to big "D" with my kids and the AA people
in ABQ charged me $50 and had no problem with them. When I was leaving
to go back to ABQ, the AA pet gestapo was going to charge me $116 to fly
them "priority parcel". She told me that was the only way to fly
ferrets because they were not domesticated--what?! I tried to tell her
that ferrets have been domesticated for over 3000 years (longer than
cats, I believe) but she remained hostile. My sister who is a vet tech
even verified what I had said but the AA counter person from hell could
not be persuaded until I showed her my ticket from ABQ that clearly
showed what I had paid and how the ferrets flew. We made it back ok--not
without some real sweating on my part. The bottom line is: what can we
do to educate the airlines (and other ignorant, predjudiced
organizations) about ferrets?! I'm really want to try! Anyway, I think
I'll drive to big "D" from now on--12 hours will be worth the peace of mind.
:) Steph, Marty, and Sophie
