I have the same problem. I first discovered them last summer, when we had
a real bad case. This year I've kept an eye out for them, and when I
first noticed them cleaned out both my cages entirely.

I did notice that they were breeding in the *bottom* of the cage. We have
wire cages with wire flooring with a metal pan underneath, and in the
course of eating (and rearranging food) the ferrets had managed to knock
a considerable amount of food into the bottom, where I discovered the
tiny baby bugs.

I also use the scoopable litter -- does anyone think this is the problem?

Any help for us bug-infested households is welcome.
