Feline acne is a fairly common in cats. It usually involves the chin (one of
the few places a cat can't clean). It starts as small black dots (black
heads) and can get bad enough to cause localized hair loss and swelling of
the chin. If its progressed enough it is treated with topical oxy dex gel (a
cat's strength preparation) plus/minus antibiotics. It can be kept under
control if caught early by cleaning the cat's chin with warm water.
There is no condition, I know of, where ferrets get acne that needs to be
treated with antibiotics. Isolated red marks would be more commonly caused
by trauma, scratching, etc. If it seems painful of gets larger you may want
to have it checked (mast cell tumors or skin infections cause cause this as
well).
It sounds like it may not be a big concern and using antibiotics may not be
agood idea if its not necessary (antibiotics can have side effects and even
cause bacterial resistance if used indicriminantly.
I hope this helps.
Dr Weiss
