It's been five and a half weeks since V'orri's right adrenal gland was
removed. He already has almost all his hair back. It's coming in at
summer coat length, but the interesting thing is that the color has
changed. He has always had a creamy undercoat, with a mix of black,
white and brown guard hairs. He now has an amber undercoat, and i see
just black and white guard hairs. Some of this may be a visual perception
problem on my part, but I took him in for vaccination & checkup/follow
up yesterday, and the first thing the vet said was that his color was
different. He has regained some of the weight he lost during the first
two weeks after surgery, and now is probably the most fit that he has
been since babyhood. He is also back to his piggy self, just stuffing
his face whenever he can. :)
I wanted to comment on letting ferrets fight it out. I had always let
that occur and most times it was the right thing to do. HOWEVER, one
of my ferrets was seriously injured by another, and was so terrified
that every time he came near she would scream and spryay. My first ferret
also had had blood drawn by another. Helix ended up with a pierced ear
after a quarrel with another ferret that I was trying to rescue. In
order to get the attacker to unclamopp , I actually had to bite the aggressor's
ear. I tried running them under water first, but Aaron still wouldn't let
go, nor was I able to pry his mouth open. The odd thing is, that every ferret
that I have runa across who has problems relating to other ferrets is
an absolutely wonderful ferret with people, and frequently gets along
great with dogs as well, it's just other ferrets they don't like.
Depending on the where I was at the time, I either found another home for
the ferret, or changed living arrangements for the clan. I also fiouound
that the babies I bottle fed developed problems relating to other
ferrets later in life, generally, they like to be bossy, which has
gotten a couple nin big trouble wwith their cagemates.
last topic : updates on the CA ferret legal status are anxiously
awaited. If they actually get legalized, that opens up a whole new
area of living and job oppurortunities.
