question: What is carafate?
 
Carafate (Sucralfate) is used to treat G.I. ulcers in ferrets.  Ulcers are
breaks through the stomach and/or small intestional tract lining.  These
areas can become deeper and larger as a result of several factors including
chemicals in the G.I. tract (acid, pepsin and bile acid), bacteria or stress.
 Carafate is one of many drugs used to treat ulcers.  It works by forming a
protective coating over the ulcer to protect it from the irritating chemicals
mentioned previously.  Because it forms a protective coating it can decrease
the absorption of other drugs.
